NBA Free Agency 2016: Top 5 Most Overpaid Players
No. 3: Timofey Mozgov — 4 Years, $64 Million
Slotting in at No. 3 is Timofey Mozgov who, despite averaging 17.4 minutes per game last season and just 5.8 minutes per game in the playoffs, agreed to a $64 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
Mozgov has always seemed like a player who has potential and just hasn’t reached it, but as he gets farther into his career, those hopes are fading.
The brightest spot of Mozzy’s career was halfway through the 2014-15 season when he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Denver Nuggets. From that point on, he averaged 10.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks over 25 minutes per game.
It seemed like maybe he would be able to build on those solid numbers going forward, but the 2015-16 season was a different story.

Mozgov averaged just 6.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks over 17.4 minutes per game last season, before becoming even more of a non-factor in the playoffs. Maybe things will change now that he’ll see regular playing time as the Lakers’ starting center, but that’s far from a guarantee.
Sixteen million dollars per year is an awful lot of money to commit to a guy whose ceiling of production may very well be about 11 points and seven rebounds per game.
