How Will Wade’s Presence Affect Jimmy Butler?

Jimmy Butler is an interesting piece to this puzzle. On the heels of a disappointing rookie season in which he averaged just 2.6 points and 8.5 minutes per contest, Butler has become a household name in the Windy City.

His scoring average has increased in each of the last four seasons. He has become a two-time All-Star; won the Most Improved Player of the Year Award in 2015 and he led Chicago in several categories last season, including minutes played (36.9), points (20.9), assists (4.8) and steals per game (1.64).

Taking these factors into consideration, one has to wonder if adding Wade to the mix will have an adverse effect on Butler’s game. After all, Wade and Butler are similar in that they both need to have the ball in their hands in order to be effective.

When you have a player of Wade’s caliber on the floor, it is obvious that this addition will take away scoring opportunities for Butler. Additionally, being that ball-handling duties will be handed over to Rondo, can Butler continue to thrive in a reduced role?

Similar the formation of “The Heatles” back in 2010, it will be interesting to see if the meshing of this trio will be a complete success or an absolute train wreck.
