Linsanity Returns To New York
Addition: Jeremy Lin: three years, $36 million
Lin averaged 11.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game off the bench last season for the Hornets. While his shooting percentages were down, Lin proved to be as close to perfect as a third guard a team can ask for— someone capable of running the offense and scoring in the second unit—while also capable of playing alongside starter Kemba Walker.
With roughly $55 million to spend this offseason, Brooklyn made a number of smart deals by taking relatively low risk shots on underachieving young players to infuse their roster with players who can still develop, and also adding capable veteran role players to aid the learning process and keep the team somewhat competitive.
Lin has a previous relationship with new Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson — known as a strong developer of talent — and is going back to his days with the New York Knicks. Lin can man the 1-spot alongside Tyler Ennis or enter as a combo guard off the bench. For three years and $36 million, Lin comes in as a major steal for the Nets.
