In a summer that’s featured Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors, a salary floor that will be higher than last year’s salary cap and the city of Cleveland ending a 52-year championship drought, Dwyane Wade parting ways with the Miami Heat still might be the craziest NBA-related thing to happen in 2016.

When team president Pat Riley made re-signing Hassan Whiteside and wooing Kevin Durant his top priorities, Wade took it as a slight. When Miami was only willing to offer a two-year, $40 million extension, the gap between the two sides widened.

More from Chicago Bulls

Throughout his 13-year career with the Heat, which included three championship rings and five NBA Finals appearances, Wade was never the highest paid player on Miami’s roster.

For the greatest player in the franchise’s history, this not-so-fun fact finally pushed him to his breaking point when other teams were willing to offer him the kind of money Wade felt he deserved. Now Flash is leaving the only NBA organization he’s ever known to return home.

According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Wade has agreed to a two-year, $47.5 million contract with the Chicago Bulls, who have had a busy and somewhat perplexing summer. With Flash returning to his hometown, the ripple effects of this move will be felt around the league.

Here’s a look at how this shocking separation will affect Wade, the Heat, the Bulls and the rest of the NBA.
