3. Boston Celtics

It’s entirely possible that Russell Westbrook wouldn’t want to re-sign with the Boston Celtics. Boston isn’t exactly Los Angeles, Miami, or New York in its major-market appeal, but it does have something else going heavily in its favor.

If Westbrook wants to win, then joining the organization that has 17 championship banners would be a wise course of action.

The Celtics have a general manager, Danny Ainge, who has created a Big Three before. Even if he can’t add more superstars, Boston already has Al Horford, Avery Bradley, and as much depth as any team in the NBA.

The winning culture is being carried into the new era of NBA basketball by a brilliant young head coach in Brad Stevens.

As for what Boston can offer, that starts with its right to swap 2017 NBA Draft picks with the Brooklyn Nets—a team that’s projected to end up in the lottery. Boston can also offer young players such as Jaylen Brown and/or Marcus Smart, and veterans such as Jae Crowder and/or Isaiah Thomas.

The price tag will be hefty, but if any team can afford to pay it and still hold onto some of its key assets, it’s Boston.
