NBA Orlando Summer League: Random Thoughts, Day 2
Charlotte Hornets squad
The Hornets lost their first game of this year’s Summer League, 79-74, to the Magic’s White squad.
The Hornets bounced back to beat Indiana by 10 points on Day 2.
The squad didn’t seem to mesh as well overall, even by the second day. Perhaps I’m biased by regular-season play, but there are other Summer League teams that seemed to click right away (hi, Miami Heat squad), and the quality of play reflected it.
That being said, the Hornets were able to overcome shoddy play on the first day to take a solid win on Day 2. It’s all about progress.
Ones to watch: Aaron Harrison and Wayne Blackshear of the Hornets squad.
Harrison will enter his second year with the Hornets (he was undrafted out of Kentucky) and has an opportunity to see more court time this upcoming season since guard Jeremy Lin left for the Hornets, but he has to work on his shot selection and overall shooting (especially from three-point range), and be more consistent.
Blackshear was solid after playing in Italy last season. He stepped on for Sunday’s win against the Pacers squad with . At this time, Blackshear is not playing in the Utah or Las Vegas summer leagues; this could change if another squad invites him.
Charlotte is not participating in either of the other two Summer Leagues.
The Hornets play the evening of July 4, so let’s see if they continue to get better.
