The Lucky Sperm Club

“The seed is strong,” whispered Jon Arryn on his death bed in Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin (which I am currently reading, as I am a fan of the TV series on HBO).

So it goes for former NBA players and their relatives.

Knowing that the “N-word”– nepotism– will be quick to be thrown about as they progress through the league (hi there, Austin Rivers), the sons and relatives of former and current pro players are trying to prove that they are more than just fortunate DNA:

  • Andre Dawkins, Dallas squad (son of Johnny Dawkins, who played for the Spurs, 76ers, and Pistons over nine seasons)
  • Juwan Howard Jr., Miami squad (son of Juwan Howard, head coach of the Miami Summer League team, assistant coach of the Heat, and former member of the Michigan “Fab Five” who played in the NBA for 19 seasons and won two rings with Miami)
  • Glenn Robinson III, Indiana squad (son of Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson, who played 11 NBA seasons and spent the majority of his career with the Bucks)
  • Jaleel Cousins, Dallas squad (brother of mercurial Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins)
  • Marshall Plumlee, Knicks squad (brother of Miles Plumlee [Bucks] and Mason Plumlee [Blazers])
