Marvin Williams has agreed to sign probably his final big contract for his career. At the age of 29, four years and $54.5 million is a just reward for the way that he plays.

I am a massive fan of the Marvin Williams-type of player. He plays with heart and soul and leaves nothing on the court. Williams embodies the team player, the glue on the court whose job it is to provide what is required.

If the Charlotte Hornets need rebounds he will get double digits even though his career average is 5.2 per night. If the team needs points he will hit 15-20 when his career average is just 10.5 points per night.

Williams has only been part of Charlotte for two years but obviously both parties are happy, Williams has been offered a four year, $54.5 million deal as per Adrian Woknarowski from the vertical.

Williams is on his third team since being drafted second overall in the 2005 draft. Williams stayed for seven seasons with the Atlanta Hawks before moving to the Utah Jazz in a trade for Devin Harris, staying for two years.

Williams seems to have found a home with Charlotte, at the end of this deal he will have been with them for six years. Even as early as two months ago, Williams was saying that he wanted to stay in Charlotte. This means that it was not a surprise that he went back to Charlotte.

Charlotte have done well with their free agent selection, they had five to negotiate with. With Al Jefferson coming off the bench after he came back from injury and personal issues, it was always going to be hard to keep him.

Jeremy Lin was always the backup shooting guard and with the season he had was always going elsewhere for better money and Courtney Lee had a price tag that was always going to be high.

Fortunately for Charlotte they managed to secure the services of Marco Belinelli to go along with the talents of Jeremy Lamb so the bench is starting to take shape.

Nicolas Batum

is the other player that Charlotte will re-sign and he is certainly worth the maximum contract.

With bringing back Batum and Williams, Charlotte have kept their front court together with center Cody Zeller forming a really good defensive wall.

This defensive wall allows for quick transition offense for their super talented back court. This back court is Kemba Walker who is locked in for another few years, as is Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

The starting five is set, each player has their tasks and they do them well. With the role that Williams has carved out for himself Charlotte were able to let Jefferson walk, meaning they will be able to sign deeper bench talent with the money that Jefferson would have commanded.

One bench player who has benefited from Charlotte re-signing Williams is Frank Kaminsky. The second-year player would have been the logical choice to slip into the starting lineup if Williams had of moved on, but can develop for another few seasons now.

The Charlotte Hornets have managed to keep most of the quality together and should be ready for a deep playoff run.
