3. San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are in the midst of the most frightening offseason in franchise history. Tim Duncan has yet to decide whether or not he’s going to retire, which is a decision that will alter the landscape of the NBA.

Whether or not Duncan retires, he’s a 40-year-old center who was limited to 25.2 minutes per game in 2015-16; he and the Spurs need help at the 5.

Marcin Gortat would be a wonderful fit alongside power forward LaMarcus Aldridge. His physical defense would be a welcome addition to a finesse Spurs team, and his pick-and-roll proficiency would help Tony Parker produce at a higher volume.

Furthermore, having an enforcer who can protect the rim would make Kawhi Leonard all the more dangerous defensively.

What makes the Aldridge and Gortat pairing so intriguing is their mutual proficiency from midrange. Both players can space the floor in a tradition sense, all the while possessing the ability to control the boards and score along the interior.

San Antonio needs to do something to improve at center, and Gortat is the perfect low-cost option to target via trade.
