4. Move On From Mike Scott

Unfortunately Mike Scott has non-basketball issues hanging over his head. I will not go into these here but they are potentially serious. He also has a $3.3 million contract which will become guaranteed if he is still on the Atlanta Hawks roster on July 10.

Scott is a low-cost insurance option for the Hawks, but he is also a distraction. If he is found guilty, the distraction could disrupt the Hawks’ season and no professional sports teams need outside influences to affect their on court play.

In a league as competitive as the NBA, even a small distraction can cost wins when games are regularly decided by five points or les.

Scott’s 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds would not be difficult to find a replacement for, this replacement would be, hopefully, distraction free.

Scott has spent all four of his years in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks but the undersized power forward who stands at 6-foot-8 should not get a fifth.

With the NBA taking a fair stand with O.J. Mayo in the last day or so with his similar misdemeanor, I believe that Atlanta need to take the high road and tell their fans that they will not tolerate illicit activity.
