4. Charlotte Hornets

Former Charlotte Hornets big man Al Jefferson has agreed to terms with the Indiana Pacers. Frank Kaminsky and Cody Zeller will be tasked with filling his void in Charlotte, but the Hornets shouldn’t be so quick to accept that as an inevitability.

Nikola Vucevic would fit well with a number of teams, and Steve Clifford and the Hornets rank amongst the very best possible options.

Down low, Vucevic can replace Jefferson as a tenacious offensive rebounder who can play from the post and score in isolation. He’d also fit Clifford’s desire to space the floor with his mastery of the midrange jump shot.

All things considered, a pick-and-roll combination of Vucevic and Kemba Walker would be one of the very best in the NBA today.

Vucevic doesn’t get to the free throw line very often, but he’s quite capable of playing with his back to the basket. He’s an efficient all-around scorer and capable finisher from the post, however, and Clifford is the right coach to find the perfect low-high balance.

With Walker and Nicolas Batum already under contract, it’d be worth dealing long-term assets and a draft pick in order to acquire Vucevic.
