5 Roster Moves The Dallas Mavericks Need To Make
4.Re-Sign Deron Williams
Deron Williams was a pleasant surprise for me last year. During him time with the Brooklyn Nets his numbers were not what they used to be. I am sure that people wondered if that was because Williams was not the player that he once was.
My take on it, Brooklyn was a bad team with no chemistry.
That is another lot of writing for another day however.
Last season, Williams numbers were actually really similar that of his time with Brooklyn. The difference, Williams showed that he still had the basketball knowledge and acumen to run a team as opposed to a collection of individuals.
Back to those numbers, Williams played 65 games last year, averaging 32.4 minutes, 14.1 points, 5.8 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game.
These numbers are not a shade on the three seasons that he was an All Star, two of which he averaged over 20 points per game and ten assists per game.
He does not need to be that guy on this Dallas team. Considering that he helped four other guys average more than ten points per game and helped Dallas get into the Playoffs, I would say to most people that he did his job well.
With Williams opting out of his contract, he is probably looking for that one final pay day because he is 31 and it is his last chance. Lets hope for the sake of the Dallas Mavericks that it is with them.
