5 Roster Moves The Cleveland Cavaliers Need To Make
2. Have J.R. Smith Opt In
Again, this move is a no-brainer for me. Every team needs a three-point sharpshooter. J.R.Smith hits them at 40 percent, which is top 20 in the league.
His 12.4 points per game was fourth on the team last season and less than one point per game off his career average of 13.2 points per game.
What you see is what you get with Smith. He played 30.7 minutes per game last year and performed his role to perfection.
He had less than one turnover a game, but that is expected in his role, Smith does not often go outside his purview. which is to catch and shoot.
That being said, Smith is not afraid to get on the floor and fight for a loose ball or drive the ball to the basket as required by the team.
At 30, Smith still has a number of years of basketball ahead of him, especially in his role. He would be wise to opt in to his contract, hoping that James also opts in and go for another championship.
If Smith opts out, looking for a potentially better pay day it will not be with Cleveland, given the fact that they are already committed over the salary cap for next year.
