There will never be another Tim Duncan. But Horford’s skill set is the closest to the San Antonio Spurs icon among all centers/power forwards who entered the league over the last decade.
The jury is still out on Duncan returning for his 20th season. On Tuesday, The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Duncan is still mulling his future.
If Duncan decides to call it a day, Horford would be the perfect replacement. The Dominican fits all the criterion of the model Spur. He is team-oriented, humble and a consummate professional.
Also, Horford can make a seamless transition from Mike Budenholzer to Gregg Popovich. Remember, Budenholzer was Popovich’s assistant in San Antonio for 15 seasons.
Spurs might find it difficult to open up cap room to sign Horford. They would be forced to move the contracts of Boris Diaw ($6.5 million) and Patty Mills ($ 3.5 million) to accommodate Horford.
