2. Sign Another Rim Protector

There is a possibility that Andrew Bogut will be traded this year. He has one more year to go on an $11 million contract and Golden State may need room on their salary cap.

However, I will proceed with the scenario that he is playing for Golden State next season. Andrew Bogut would once again be the starting center, as his rim defense is the best on the team with 1.6 blocks in his 20.8 minutes per game.

I think that on a team of shooters having a shooting center like Marreese Speights is not required. I think that Golden State should let him try his value on the open market and sign a rim protector like Cole Aldrich as a backup. Aldrich averaged 1.2 blocks in 13.6 minutes per game last season.

Aldrich has a $1.2 million option for next season. He could probably get similar money from the Warriors.

When Bogut was out for the final two games plus the rest of Game 5 when he hurt his knee, Cleveland had almost a free run at the basket. Golden State need insurance against Bogut’s oft-injured body.

The second scenario is that Bogut is traded and Golden State looks to get a new rim protector like Roy Hibbert, who has the talent to start. Hibbert had a bad season last year becuase he was exposed on defense due to no help. This Golden State team will certainly be helpful on defense.

Because of Hibbert’s last season, he has played himself out of a big contract and therefore Golden State could afford him while re-signing Barnes.
