5 Roster Moves The Memphis Grizzlies Need To Make
4. Get Lance Stephenson To Opt In
Memphis was as good for Lance Stephenson as Stephenson has been for Memphis. Stephenson was becoming a star when he played for the Indiana Pacers. He then moved to the Charlotte Hornets and had a season that he would like to forget.
Stephenson was then contracted to the Los Angeles Clippers to try and assist them to a championship. Needless to say, this did not work out and when Memphis traded Jeff Green to Los Angeles for Lance Stephenson, only Los Angeles was lauded for a good trade.
Memphis, however, was the eventual winner of this trade. Stephenson averaged 4.7 points per game in Los Angeles. In Memphis, his output went up almost 10 points per game to 14.2.
His rebounding went up from 2.5 per game to 4.4 per game and his assists doubled from 1.4 to 2.8 per game.
Stephenson was back, putting up numbers not seen since his last season in Indiana.
Of course, next year, hopefully for Memphis, Stephenson will not be asked to carry the load as much with Marc Gasol and other starters back. His number will see a decline but not to the Los Angeles level.
Stephenson has also shown that he is a good insurance policy who seems to like the pace of the Memphis game.
