3. Re-Sign P.J. Hairston

One word sums up P.J. Hairston. Defense. The 6-foot-6 small forward has the defensive prowess to take the best player on the opposition and shut him down.

Hairston was acquired by Memphis in a three-team trade which sent Courtney Lee to the Charlotte Hornets. Memphis also received four second round picks and Chris Andersen.

Hairston missed 10 games with a groin injury after coming across from Charlotte but in the 18 games that he played averaged 20.9 minutes, 6.9 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Give him some time with the full squad over the summer period and then early next season and theses numbers should go up.

The other number in favor of Hairston is 23. Hairston is one of the next generation starting to form for Memphis — together with Jordan Adams (21), Jarrell Martin (22), JaMychal Green and Lance Stephenson (25).

Memphis has also got the 17th pick of this years draft to add another quality young player to this future core.

These players will start to replace the likes of Vince Carter (39), Matt Barnes (36), Tony Allen and Zach Randolph (34).

The future looks reasonably promising for Memphis with this young core, Hairston will be the defensive leader for years.
