2. Re-Sign Matt Barnes

Matt Barnes, who was underappreciated with the Los Angeles Clippers, decided to take his talents elsewhere at the start of last season. Thank goodness for Memphis they took the chance on the then 35-year-old.

His 76 games were the second best on the team due to the mountain of injuries that Memphis had.

In those 76 games he averaged 28.8 minutes, 10.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2,2 assists per game. More than that, he bought to the team his trademark grunt.

No possession is easy for any opposing player when Barnes is guarding them. He brings intensity to any team that he plays on.

With Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph and Barnes in the lineup, Grit-N-Grind is still very much alive. Barnes is not a fashionable player but he is successful.

Barnes has played enough in the NBA to know his game inside out. I would think that there would be a few teams out there who would benefit from Barnes’ determined play.

Even at 36 years of age, I would suggest that Barnes has two or three more years left in him. I hope from a Memphis point of view that he plays for the Grizzlies as the low cost backup safety that they need.
