5. Sign Ian Mahinmi

As much as I appreciate Nikola Pekovic, he has only played 271 of a possible 476 games in his career. That is simply too much time to miss to be a reliable part of a team. He only played 12 games last season.

Unfortunately for the Timberwolves, they have shown faith in the big man with the contract he has. It has two years and in excess of $22 million remaining.

Ian Mahinmi

, currently playing for the

Indiana Pacers

, is a solid, reliable backup. He did start last year for the Pacers but that was through lack of available options.

Mahinmi’s numbers were good last season, 25.3 minutes, 9.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.

I am a fan on Mahinmi’s play. He blocks shots, changes shots, rebounds and scores. He also does it all without a lot of fanfare.

If Minnesota was able to secure his services, then when Towns went to the bench, Minnesota would have a reliable rim protector still on the court.

No matter what happens in the offseason, there is little doubt that with the talent it has, Minnesota will start climbing the ranks in the Western Conference.
