5. Draft sensibly

No. 6 overall: If the five teams above pass on Buddy Hield, he would be the perfect fit for New Orleans. The ready-to-contribute shooting guard from Oklahoma averaged 25.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

If he could contribute half of that a night for the Pelicans, there would be so much less pressure on Davis.

The other option at this pick would be Jamal Murray, a combo guard from Kentucky. Murray averaged 20.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

No. 39 overall:  With the 39th pick, I would be trying to get some insurance at center. If Stephen Zimmerman from UNLV is still available, the 7-foot freshman who averaged 10.3 points and 8.8 rebounds would be a welcome addition to the Pelican squad.

If Zimmerman was not available, I would look at A.J. Hammons from Purdue. Hammons, another 7-footer, averaged 15.0 points and 8.2 rebounds.

No. 40 overall: With this pick I would probably take Patrick McCaw. The 6-7 shooting guard averaged 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game for UNLV.

New Orleans needs to get healthy and stay healthy throughout the year. The best chance that they have for growth is with the sixth pick, but with their cap situation and an excess of expensive centers, these roster moves will hopefully move them up.
