Golden State Warriors: Incredible Statistics From All-Time Season
7. 402 3-Point Field Goals
Entering 2015-16, the all-time record for 3-point field goals made by an individual player in a single season was 286. That record was set by Stephen Curry in 2014-15, which followed his setting the previous record of 272 in 2012-13.
In 2015-16, Curry obliterated that record in a way that, in hindsight, still doesn’t seem plausible.
Curry didn’t just surpass the previous record of 286; he didn’t even limit himself to becoming the first player in NBA history to make 300 3-point field goals. And, for what it’s worth, he is the only player in NBA history to make at least 300 3-point field goals in a single season.
Curry decided to set a record that’s unlikely to be touched in the near future: 402 3-point field goals in a single season.
Teammate Klay Thompson ranked No. 2 in 2015-16 with 276 3-point field goals made. That’s just 10 shy of Curry’s previous record, which is impressive enough, but Curry’s 402 are in another stratosphere.
Curry broke his own record by 116 3-point field goals made. For what it’s worth, only 49 players made 116 3-point field goals in 2015-16.
