The 73 regular season wins will go down as the definition of the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors’ greatness. Beyond that mark, however, is a number that cemented the Warriors’ season as the winningest of all-time.

Despite falling short of the 2016 NBA championship, the Warriors set a new NBA record with 88 wins over the course of a full season.

The record of 73-9 in the regular season was significant enough to solidify the Warriors’ place in history. The 89th win was the goal, but the 88th victory was historically significant enough to prove that Golden State was not a fluke success story.

You know, if the 67 wins and NBA championship from 2014-15 hadn’t already proven that.

Golden State came within one victory—and the most dominant player of our generation—of completing the greatest season in NBA history. Thus, while it may be easy to discredit the Warriors, this team should be appreciated.

No team in NBA history won more games in any era, under any circumstances, than the 2015-16 Warriors.
