8. Avoid Foul Trouble

Foul trouble has been a thorn in Golden State’s side over the last few games, particularly for Stephen Curry, who has had problems getting into a rhythm in a few of these contests because he’s picked up a couple of cheap ones early.

In Game 2, Curry’s impact was limited to short bursts because of his foul trouble, leaving Draymond Green and the Warriors’ bench to do the heavy lifting. In Game 3, it was much of the same, only Cleveland steamrolled the Dubs on their home court.

In Game 6, Curry wound up fouling out for the first time since 2013, providing the final nail in the coffin of a game that was slipping away. Though he still scored 30 points, the deciding stretch of the game came in the first quarter when Kerr left him on the bench with two fouls for far too long and watched Cleveland churn out an 18-6 run to close the period.

In Game 7, the margin for error will be slim. A couple of Curry’s foul calls in Game 6 were dubious (that strip of Kyrie Irving was 100 percent clean), but the others were dumb mistakes that a player of his caliber can’t afford to make. With the season on the line, the Dubs can’t afford for Curry, Klay Thompson or Draymond Green to get into early foul trouble.
