4. Sign Marreese Speights

With the Golden State Warriors having a good chance of winning their second title in as many years, Marreese Speights might see it as a good time to get out and sign with a team where he will play more and get paid more.

Currently, Speights is the third option at center for the Warriors, playing behind Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli. That is, when coach Steve Kerr does not decide to go small and play Draymond Green at center.

At 28, Speights is not going to have many more chances to make some good money from the NBA after the next contract he signs, so he has to make this one count.

Orlando has room in their cap to pay Speights, more than the Warriors. With Speights’ shooting touch, he is happy to take threes and would be a good backup behind Vucevic.

Speights would also change other teams’ defensive structures when he comes on court. Vucevic is a center who shoots from within the three-point arc as a rule. Speights has no such limitations, although he can have some issues from close range.

As such, the floor spacing that Speights could provide would be beneficial for Payton and Oladipo as the opposing center will not be in as good a position to defend the rim.
