13. Phoenix Suns – Deyonta Davis (Michigan State)

Phoenix will add another power forward to their frontcourt after selecting Chriss fourth overall. Deyonta Davis is a young forward that is going to protect the rim and rebound at a high level.

Davis, 19, only played 18.6 minutes per game in his freshman season at Michigan State, but he shined in the playing time he received. He proved to be a great rim protector, by blocking a ridiculous 3.9 shots per 40 minutes. Standing 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-2 wingspan, it is no surprise that Davis is a good shot blocker.

His rebounding is also impacted by his lengthy frame. He pulled down 11.8 rebounds per 40 minutes and had a rebounding rate of 16.5 percent, including 13.5 percent on the offensive end. Davis is quick and has good hands, and as he adds on some strength, he’ll become even better.

Despite finding great success on the defensive end and as a rebounder, Davis has a solid offensive game too. He averaged 16.1 points per 40 minutes on 59.8 percent shooting from the field. Davis has fluid mechanics that should allow him to develop range as a shooter. A lot of his offense comes around the basket from the post or offensive rebounding.

Phoenix has a great opportunity to improve its frontcourt in this draft and adding Chriss’ offensive game and Davis’ defensive game gives them a great one-two punch to build in their frontcourt. Davis has work to do to develop his offensive game and add some strength, but he’ll contribute defensively immediately.
