11. Orlando Magic – Jaylen Brown (California)

The Orlando Magic could use a small forward or a power forward with this pick and landing Jaylen Brown with the 11th pick would be a dream come true. Brown’s best contributions will come as a slasher on the offensive side of the ball.

Brown, 19, shot .431/.294/.654 in his freshman season at Cal. He relied on his inconsistent jumper in the half court offense, but proved he could handle the ball and get open looks or attack off the ball. As the season went on, Brown began to improve his shooting touch and hit with more consistency.

Brown proved to be a good passer with the responsibilities he had at Cal. He had a usage rate of 31.4 and an assist percentage of 15.3. He averaged 2.0 assists in 27.6 minutes per game. He also proved that he can move the ball in transition, or attack to get good looks.

Defensively, Brown is going to need to improve to be a quality defender at the NBA level. While he has good size on the wing at 6-foot-7, he doesn’t have the discipline to defend two positions yet. He has also shown that he can jump in the passing lanes and start a fast break. The physical makeup and athletic quickness are there for Brown, so developing his skills will be key to defensive success.

Brown is a skilled rebounder, averaging 5.4 per game and 7.8 per 40 minutes. His 7-foot wingspan certainly helps him battle for rebounds, which is a department where he can help immediately with a knack for finding the ball.

The Magic will have a solid wing tandem with Brown and Victor Oladipo. Brown also complements Mario Hezonja, a shooter who comes off the bench. Brown’s ability to play off the ball will work well with the Magic’s perimeter players, but his potential to improve on both ends of the court stands out over everything.
