2016 NBA Mock Draft: Built On Unpredictability
10. Milwaukee Bucks – Henry Ellenson (Marquette)
The Milwaukee Bucks have a good thing going with their young duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton. Adding Marquette’s Henry Ellenson to the mix adds another piece to the Bucks’ talented young squad. Ellenson is a prospect that has a good offensive game, which is where he will contribute most early in his NBA career.
Ellenson, 19, earned Big East Rookie of the Year honors while playing for a struggling Marquette team that shares their home court with the Bucks at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. In his freshman season, he averaged 17.0 PPG, 9.7 RPG and 1.5 BPG in 33 games.
Ellenson’s offensive game is versatile and his 7-foot frame gives him an opportunity to play center, in addition to power forward. He is athletic enough to run in transition as the primary ball-handler, and can showcase his handles in the half-court offense, too. He hit 28.8 percent of his three-point attempts, which is inconsistent but gives him a base for expanding his range.
The defensive end could be a struggle for Ellenson. While he did have some success blocking shots at the college level, the dynamic changes against quicker and stronger forwards in the NBA. He will need to commit himself to improving on the defensive end if he’s going to become a two-way player.
Milwaukee has been kind to Ellenson during his basketball career so far, and continuing it with the Bucks will provide an opportunity for him to polish his game in familiar waters. Playing alongside Greg Monroe should boost Ellenson’s offensive game as a player that can space the floor, and ignite the Bucks’ offense.
