Cleveland Cavaliers: 5 Takeaways From Game 6 vs. Warriors
3. Would Stephen Curry Have Made A Difference Down The Stretch?
The Cavaliers overwhelmed the Warriors early to the tune of a 31-11 lead after the first quarter. But when you have a two-time MVP who is capable of going off at any moment, no lead is really safe no matter how large it may be.
Inevitably, the Warriors made their run and trimmed the deficit to seven points in the fourth quarter. Then something unusual happened in the game’s final minutes.
Curry was whistled for his sixth foul with 4:22 left in the game and his team trailing by 12 points. Not only that, he was ejected after picking up a technical foul for arguing the call and throwing his mouthpiece at a fan.
Yes, the call was probably a questionable one. However, if Curry had not picked up a few avoidable fouls earlier in the game, this particular foul would have been inconsequential.
Curry concluded his evening with 30 points, including a 6-for-13 effort from beyond the arc. Although he didn’t have a great shooting night overall (8-for-20), perhaps the Warriors find a way to come back and win if he was able to finish the game.
