The Chicago Bulls have made their first move of the summer by trading Cameron Bairstow for Spencer Dinwiddie.

The Chicago Bulls have kicked off their summer of change by making a trade.

Per the team’s official website, the organization has acquired guard Spencer Dinwiddie from the Detroit Pistons in an even exchange for forward/center swingman Cameron Bairstow.

Dinwiddie, originally from Los Angeles, was drafted No. 38 overall by the Pistons in 2014. Although he was assigned and re-assigned several times to Detroit’s Developmental League affiliate team, the Grand Rapids Drive, he saw time in 46 games for the Pistons.

More from Chicago Bulls

Having played for them for two years, the 23-year-old averaged 4.4 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in 13.3 minutes of play.

However, in contests during which he saw more time, he certainly blossomed. As a rookie, he totaled a career-high 20 points, eight assists and four rebounds when he saw 25 minutes of play in a February matchup against the Washington Wizards. He also had a 17-point, four-assist, two-rebound game versus the Los Angeles Lakers this year, in 24 minutes of play.

Ironically, Dinwiddie’s only career start was against the Bulls this past season. The guard finished the evening with 12 points, nine assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Chicago is not only getting a hard worker with a ton of potential though. Dinwiddie may take his time on the floor very seriously, but he also seems to have a fun-loving personality, which at this point, the Bulls could certainly use.

Having made SportsCenter for appearing to chow down on a candy bar while on the bench, Dinwiddie poked fun at himself on Twitter about it:

Of course, he then went on to clear the air, too.

So now that Chicago has made its first move in revamping its roster, what is next?

Well, with the 2016 NBA Draft just around the corner, another two new faces are set to jump on board very shortly. Although there is nothing set in stone regarding who the front office will decide to go after, the team does currently have the No. 14 and No. 48 picks.

Of course, there is also the possibility that the Bulls will try and construct a trade in order to draft higher. For example, recently the rumor mill has been buzzing about letting go of star Jimmy Butler for exactly that reason. However, Butler has also been brought up in relation to a Minnesota Timberwolves trade.

For now, Chicago fans should be excited about seeing what Dinwiddie can do for them and be glad that the organization does seem to actually be active in regards to a rebuild.
