The Phoenix Suns have plenty of options approaching the 2016 NBA Draft. In addition to their four picks in the top-34, general manager Ryan McDonough will have a bevy of upcoming free agents, other teams’ disgruntled stars and possible trade packages to sift through in the coming weeks.

With a collection of young but movable assets, the Suns have the flexibility to make a move in any direction this summer. Navigating such open waters may prove to be impossible if the goal is a one-year turnaround, but with three first round picks to work with, McDonough has weapons at his disposal.

Assuming that packaging some or all of those picks to land a franchise player becomes impossible,  however, what should the Suns actually do with their first round selections?

In the weeks leading up to the draft, we’ve taken a look at each selection the Suns own and laying out the top prospects at that spot. Here’s a look at the five best draft options for the Phoenix Suns with the 28th overall pick.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Denzel Valentine — Originally projected as the top option at No. 13, Valentine’s knee problem could cause his stock to fall. If he falls this far, Phoenix shouldn’t hesitate.
  • Dejounte Murray — A dynamite guard who might not be available at this point.
  • Damian Jones — An athletic big who runs the floor and has a decent perimeter game.
  • Thon Maker — A high upside defensive prospect who will probably be gone by No. 28.
  • Brice Johnson — A high motor, more traditional power forward without a proven perimeter touch.
  • Gary Payton II — An elite defender at the guard spot who will more likely be a second-rounder.
