Marquette Golden Eagles star Henry Ellenson has fluctuated on draft boards, but the narrative has remained the same. There are clear weaknesses in his game, but offensively, Ellenson compares well to All-NBA power forward Kevin Love.
Ellenson’s jump shot is still a work in progress, but he’s already proved quite capable of spacing the floor.
Ellenson is more of the complete package offensively than a traditional stretch 4. He’s a powerful post player who can put his shoulder into an opponent and finish through contact, and has flashed upside as both an offensive rebounder and midrange playmaker.
With that being said, Ellenson’s jump shot is what could separate him from many of the other well-rounded big men in the NBA.
Standing at just under 7’0″ with a 7’2″ wingspan, Ellenson size, length, and release point to make his shot almost impossible to defend. He’s also quite agile for a player his size, which enables him to exploit both power forwards and centers as a scorer.
Ellenson needs to improve his shot selection and overall decision making, but he has genuine All-Star potential.
