Few players are quite as coveted in the modern NBA as 3-and-D specialists. Players who can light teams up from beyond the arc and defend at a high level have always been valuable, but that’s more true in this era than ever before.

Virginia Cavaliers shooting guard Malcolm Brogdon is a second-rounder because of his age, but he has the potential to be a high-level role player in the NBA.

Brogdon won the 2016 ACC Player of the Year award. He was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year in both 2015 and 2016, and earned the NABC Defensive Player of the Year award in 2016, as well.

For what it’s worth, the only other shooting guard who has won the latter award is Victor Oladipo.

Brogdon has a prototypical build for a shooting guard, and is an excellent shooter. He can space the floor from beyond the arc, or put it on the floor and pull up from midrange with precision and efficiency.

Brogdon has a lot of Arron Afflalo in his game, and could become a defensive stopper if he lands with a coach who emphasizes defensive consistency.
