Memphis Grizzlies

Picks Owned: 17, 57

The Memphis Grizzlies have plenty of work to do this offseason, and it begins with re-signing point guard Mike Conley. Of course the draft comes before the free agency period, but Conley should be their biggest priority.

  • The Grizzlies have Zach Randolph under contract for next season and Marc Gasol through the 2018-19 season, which puts Memphis in a tricky situation. They need help on the wing, but with Randolph growing older and approaching free agency, the frontcourt could also be beefed up. Adding the possibility of Conley not returning only complicates things for the Grizzlies.

What the Grizzlies decide to do in the draft will determine the direction of the organization. They have a new head coach and are on the cusp of rebuilding without Conley and without Randolph in the near future. They could go all-in to retain Conley and look towards the wing or power forward spot.

Memphis has options, regardless of what they do. If they’re looking for a point guard, Tyler Ulis, Wade Baldwin IV or Demetrius Jackson could be available. If not, Domantas Sabonis, Taurean Prince or Brice Johnson could all be heading to Memphis.

For the Grizzlies, the draft is going to determine the direction the franchise heads for the next couple years. They need to determine their attack plan well in advanced of draft night, so they can be aggressive in whatever they decide.
