2016 NBA Draft Needs For All 30 Teams
Los Angeles Clippers
Picks Owned: 25, 33
The Los Angeles Clippers already have a formidable core of players. Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan all have at least two more years remaining on their contracts. With two picks in the draft, they have an opportunity to add to their talent base.
The Clippers need to address the wing, as only J.J. Redick and Paul Pierce are signed through the 2016-17 season. Expect the Clippers to address this through free agency, but they could also add two players that could help this team and develop into solid players in the future.
There are three wing players that the Clippers should focus on specifically. Malik Beasley, Malachi Richardson and DeAndre Bembry. Each of these prospects provides a different offensive element to their game from one another.
Beasley is a guy that is going to be a strong slasher and needs to develop his outside shot. Richardson can create his own shots with the ball and excels at finishing in the paint. Bembry is a versatile scorer that can work on or off the ball, and he’s also a skilled passer.
At least one of the three, if not all of these players should be available when the Clippers are on the clock with the 25th pick. In fact, they could also be available when the 33rd pick is on the clock. The Clippers have options with their two draft picks, both provide some amount of value.
The Clippers may be able to deal either pick for a veteran player. The 25th pick could be traded to a team that doesn’t have a first round pick, or wants to trade back into the first round to select a player they value.
The 33rd pick could be traded to a team that sees a player available that they have interest in. The second rounder is a non-guaranteed contract and brings a cheaper contract than a guaranteed first-round contract.
Los Angeles has plenty of options in this draft with there draft selections. They need to acquire players on the wing, whether it’s drafting a prospect or by trading their picks for a veteran.
