2016 NBA Draft Needs For All 30 Teams
Boston Celtics
Picks Owned: 3, 16, 23, 31, 35, 45, 51, 58
The Boston Celtics own a slew of draft picks and are one of five teams that hold multiple first round selections. Their prized possession is the third overall pick, which could bring the greatest return if they decide to trade it. It’s likely that the Celtics are active in trading their first round picks to acquire veteran talent.

With the free agency of Kevin Durant incoming, the Celtics will look to be aggressive in pursuit. In addition to Durant, the Celtics will have to re-sign Jared Sullinger and look to add a forward with Amir Johnson’s team option likely to be declined to free up cap space.
Dragan Bender would seem to be the likely option if the Celtics keep their third overall pick. He’s a big man that can stretch the floor with a perimeter shot, and can also play in the post. He didn’t receive much playing time with Maccabi Tel Aviv, but he has the profile that NBA teams are looking for in a power forward.
The Celtics could also take a look at Buddy Hield or Jamal Murray as players that can score on the wing. Drafting either of these two players would allow Boston to go with a smaller lineup at times and makes Jae Crowder a more versatile player.
It’s easy to see that the Celtics have many different directions they can go in. Their biggest need to address is the frontcourt, whether it’s by drafting a player or acquiring veterans by trading picks. The Celtics are in a good position to build off of last year’s success by adding through the draft.
