2016 NBA Draft Needs For All 30 Teams
Chicago Bulls
Picks Owned: 14, 48
The Chicago Bulls are in a sticky situation with Pau Gasol — who will decline his player option for the 2016-17 season according to CSN Chicago — and Joakim Noah becoming free agents, not to mention a disgruntled Jimmy Butler who has expressed his frustrations with the Bulls front office, according to the Chicago Tribune‘s K.C. Johnson.
This leaves a lot of moving parts for this upcoming offseason. Derrick Rose only has one year left on his contract, so the Bulls could go one of two ways in the draft: They could draft a point guard or a forward.
There’s no telling what forwards will be available when the Bulls are on the clock with the 14th pick. It may only be Deyonta Davis or Domantas Sabonis, and if that’s the case the Bulls should go in a different direction.
The point guard position is an intriguing position for those drafting in the mid-to-late first round. Wade Baldwin IV is probably the best option available, and a close second would be Demetrius Jackson.
Jackson, a Notre Dame product, could feel close to home with the welcoming he’d get from a large Irish fan base in Chicago, which is roughly an hour and 45 minutes from Notre Dame’s campus. He is an explosive point guard that knows how to utilize his athleticism to blow past defenders or free up an open jump shot.
Baldwin is a guard that is more of a floor general, but can also score by getting to the rim. He needs to develop a more consistent jump shot to round out his offensive game. Baldwin’s length gives him an opportunity to be the best all-around point guard in the draft.
The Bulls need to determine what their direction is as an organization. A rebuild could be coming, but with Butler being a star it could yield a short rebuild. What the Bulls decide directionally will heavily influence their draft choice.
