The Los Angeles Lakers are in the market for a star-caliber free agent. Which big-name players do the Lakers actually have a shot at signing?

Historically speaking, the Los Angeles Lakers are the most dangerous team in the NBA come free agency. No organization has done a better job at acquiring big names through signings or trades than the Lakers, and it’s tough to say that trend has been bucked.

Recent seasons have been rough in Los Angeles, but this is the same organization that traded for or signed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Pau Gasol, and Shaquille O’Neal.

In 2016, the Lakers will look to build upon that success in free agency by luring some of the biggest names in the NBA to Los Angeles. The 2016 class of free agents is admittedly top-heavy, but there is talent that a contender can be built with.

There’s even a player whom a contender can be built around.

None of these players are locks to come to Los Angeles, but general manager Mitch Kupchak has worked his magic before. If the Lakers are willing to part ways with some of its young talent, it could potentially build an immediate contender.

If not, these five players could be enough to help Los Angeles return to relevance in the postseason discussion.
