The Dallas Mavericks have utilized a makeshift rotation of point guards since missing out on Deron Williams in 2012. There have been some solid acquisitions, but generally speaking, Dallas has failed to find a full-time player.

That search for stability could come to a long-awaited end if the Mavericks are able to sign point guard Mike Conley.

Conley has been the starting point guard for a Memphis Grizzlies team that’s made six consecutive postseason appearances. That includes the Grizzlies’ 2013 trip to the Western Conference Finals, and its three consecutive 50-win seasons between 2013 and 2015.

If the Mavericks can land Conley, then Rick Carlisle would have a point guard he can run his offense through.

Conley is one of the most efficient playmakers in the NBA. He posted the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the NBA in 2015-16, and has a complete offensive game with a solid jump shot and a strong proficiency in running the pick-and-roll.

If coach Carlisle can tap into Conley’s defensive potential, as well, the Mavericks could build one of the best two-way backcourts in the NBA.
