2. Replace Luis Scola at power forward

Luis Scola is a 36-year-old role player who was moved into the starting lineup because Patrick Patterson and James Johnson were not quite up to it. He performed reasonably well at times throughout  the year, he also went missing for periods.

For Toronto to potentially make it in to the NBA Finals next year, Scola cannot be their power forward. There are a number of players in free agency who could replace Scola. These players include Donatas Motiejunas, David Lee, Marvin Williams, Jon Leuer and David West.

Unfortunately for Toronto, if it wants to make a trade for a player to replace Scola, they will have to give up one of their starters or the ninth pick in this year’s draft.

Toronto did try and bolster their power forward position when they offered Anthony Bennett a lifeline after he was waived by Minnesota last season. In 4.4 minutes per game the former No. 1 overall draft pick averaged 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds.

Bennett only appeared in 19 games before being released to make way for Jason Thompson.

For Toronto to compete in next year’s NBA Finals they need to find this missing ingredient for success.
