NBA Comparisons

If you’re wondering why Skal Labissiere is so high on draft boards, his NBA comparisons should offer an answer to that question. He’s clearly a few years away from being ready—or at least some drastic changes—but the upside he possesses is immense.

A common comparison for Labissiere is another big man who can dominate games as a shot-blocker and kill opponents from midrange and beyond the arc: Anthony Davis.

Davis and Labissiere had some of the same limitations coming out of college, although Davis was clearly a far more developed player. Both have excellent mechanics on their jump shot, however, as well as the athleticism to create in isolation.

If Labissiere lands in the right system with the right coach, there’s no telling how dominant of a player he could become.

The safer upside comparison is another player who shot well and blocked shots in college: Channing Frye. Frye has never been much of a rebounder in the NBA, but he can alter shots with his length, and is an outstanding shooter.

If Labissiere reaches either one of those players’ respective levels, a team will have landed an NBA-caliber player.
