3. Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards have a number of factors working in its favor. Kevin Durant is a Washington, D.C. native, and his former head coach, Scott Brooks, was hired to the same position in Washington

The icing on the cake: John Wall is a similarly explosive athlete to Russell Westbrook with a stronger inclination to defer.

Durant being from Washington, D.C. is an obvious selling point that will admittedly be overstated by the media. The connection to Brooks will also be referenced, as the duo spent seven seasons together in Oklahoma City.

For both basketball and non-basketball reasons, Washington makes sense.

The most interesting aspect of this potential pursuit is the dynamic that could be formed between Durant and Wall. Wall is a facilitator by nature, and his preference to defer is exactly what Durant needs in order to remain aggressive as a scorer.

By adding Durant, Washington—which, when healthy, won a postseason series in both 2014 and 2015—would make an immediate leap to contending status.
