4. Miami Heat

If there’s only one thing that Pat Riley does well, it’s convince superstar talent to join the Miami Heat. He traded for Shaquille O’Neal in 2004, and signed LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010.

If Kevin Durant wants to join an organization with championship-caliber structure, there won’t be many options better than Miami.

Forgive me for following the LeBron James cliche, but taking one’s talents to South Beach is a move founded in logic. Riley knows how to build a contender, Erik Spoelstra knows how to coach one, and Dwyane Wade has three championship rings and a Finals MVP award.

Furthermore, point guard Goran Dragic—a crafty ball-handler, responsible facilitator, and lethal shooter—is stylistically compatible with Durant’s game.

Miami admittedly has significant question marks. Bosh’s medical history has called his basketball future into question, and it’d be tough for the Heat to land Durant and re-sign both Dwyane Wade and Hassan Whiteside without significant roster shuffling.

When it comes to an elite talent like Durant, however, Riley would find a way to make it work.
