NBA Comparisons

It’s easy to simply say, “Buddy Hield can be compared to any great shooter.” The reality is, Hield complements the ability to live as an off-ball player who remains in constant motion with his uncanny ability to convert off the bounce.

Thus, Hield’s NBA comparisons are built in a combination of two players: one safe and one ambitious.

The safe upside comparison is Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard J.J. Redick. Redick was a prolific 3-point shooter in college, like Hield, and has become an elite marksmen at the next level with an underrated consistency on defense.

In 2015-16, Redick made 200 3-point field goals on 47.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc, and held opponents to 38.2 percent shooting from the field—target numbers for Hield.

The far more ambitious comparison is former All-NBA shooting guard Michael Redd. Like Redd, Hield can pull up from anywhere on the court and bomb 3-point field goals with efficiency, and has the body to be an excellent slasher.

Hield needs to improve his handles, as previously alluded to, but his game is tailor made for the modern NBA.
