Draft Projection: Top 5

The general expectation is that Kris Dunn will be a Top 5 selection in the 2016 NBA Draft. It’s possible that he slips a few spots further, but he’s a consensus Top 5 prospect, and this is a point guard driven league.

The safe bet is that Dunn will be a Top 5 selection.

Dunn’s draft stock places him in a tricky situation that could permit the unthinkable. It’s not that he isn’t one of the Top 5 prospects—he very clearly is—but instead that this point guard driven league already has a number of gifted point guards.

Thus, Dunn could potentially fall outside of the Top 5 as a mere victim of circumstances.

The Boston Celtics, slotted at No. 3 overall, already have an All-Star point guard in Isaiah Thomas. The Phoenix Suns, No. 4, have two rising stars in Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight, and the Minnesota Timberwolves at No. 5 have $56 million invested in Ricky Rubio.

Throw in the Denver Nuggets at No. 6, which just drafted Emmanuel Mudiay in the Top 10 last season, and Dunn could potentially fall to No. 7 or No. 8 overall.
