Honorable Mention

Michigan-based companies were the focus for the 10 best advertisers due to the Pistons’ focus on community service. That has been a focal point for the organization since Gores became the Pistons’ owner in 2011. It’s hard to imagine Gores stepping away from that initiative that he put in place, even for something as small as an advertisement patch on the team’s jerseys.

However, other brands can’t be ignored. Here are a few companies that should make a run at advertising on the Pistons’ jerseys.

Buddy’s Pizza – Detroit’s number one square pizza and burgers restaurant that is based out of Detroit, MI.
Kroger – a top food and drug store chain that is based out of Cincinnati, OH.
Nationwide – an insurance company that is based out of Columbus, OH.
Progressive – an insurance company that is based out of Mayfield Village, OH.
Kellogg – a food consumer company that is based out of Battle Creek, MI.
Sherwin Williams – a chemicals company based out of Cleveland, OH.
Dick’s Sporting Goods – a sporting goods store based out of Coraopolis, PA.
Buffalo Wild Wings – a restaurant chain that is based out of Columbus, OH.
RedBull – an energy drink that was started in Thailand.

Some of these recommendation’s fit is due to color schemes. Others make sense due to their involvement with sports. It will be interesting to see who lands the advertising space with the Pistons, and if they will stick with a Michigan-based company.

The NBA’s pilot program that features small advertisements on players’ jerseys will begin with the 2017-18 season. The three-year experiment could lead to a longer duration for advertisements due to the amount of extra revenue that it will bring teams and the NBA. With the 76ers being the first team to announce a jersey advertisement deal with StubHub, the experiment has begun.
