Boston Celtics: 5 Potential Draft Options With No. 16 Pick
2. PF Domantas Sabonis, 6’10” 238 lbs., Gonzaga
Domantas Sabonis exploded onto the scene in his sophomore season at Gonzaga, becoming the force in the paint that Mark Few and his staff were hoping for when Sabonis stepped on campus two years ago.
After averaging 17.6 points and 11.8 rebounds per game last season, Sabonis chose to make the jump to the NBA, where he would be the perfect fit for the Celtics at No. 16.
Sabonis is a high-octane rebounder and above average post defender, which are two areas that the Celtics will need to see significant improvement in order to make the next leap forward in the rebuilding process.
In addition to his elite rebounding and solid defense, Sabonis has proven to be a capable and improving player in the post, while already possessing excellent court vision and passing ability.
In order to fully realize his potential, Sabonis will need to continue to improve on his midrange shooting. Since he is not the most athletic big in the world, he will need to couple an improving midrange game with his high motor and impressive work ethic to become the NBA forward that scouts hope he can be.
