The Minnesota Timberwolves landed the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Here are five candidates that would be a good investment.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been the laughing stock of the NBA for some time now. Since the 2004-05 season, the best record they have put together is 40-42 in 2013-14. Three seasons within that timespan ended with less than 20 wins throughout the 82-game schedule.

But now, the future is shining because of a couple of young guys named Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns–each of whom were crowned Rookie of the Year (Wiggins last season and Towns unanimously this season).

Zach LaVine and Gorgui Dieng have also emerged into productive professionals that are a good fit along the two budding superstars.

Another major addition to the franchise happened when they hired Tom Thibodeau as their head coach and president of basketball operations.

The Timberwolves’ position was the perfect situation for a coach like Thibodeau who is known for being determined to squeeze every ounce of potential out of his players.

It seems as if all the dominoes are starting to fall in favor of Minnesota. The best-case scenario would have been to win the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft Lottery, but with only an 8.8 chance of doing so, anything in the top five could be considered a success.

When it was all said and done, Minnesota was chosen for the No. 5 pick and will have plenty of option to evaluate before June 23.

Let’s take a look at three players they could choose with their pick on draft night.
