5. Adrian Griffin

A current assistant for the Orlando Magic under Skiles, Adrian Griffin would be an in-house selection who’s built a reputation of being ready for a move into the head coach’s chair. Griffin has served as an assistant head coach in the NBA since 2008, most recently joining Orlando for the 2015-16 season.

He’s already familiar with the team, management is familiar with him, and as a former NBA player from 1999-2008, he may be able to relate to the players better than a tougher coach like Skiles did.

According to CBSSports.com’s Ken Berger, Griffin is one candidate who will interview for the position. But for an ownership group that wants to return to the playoffs as soon as possible, trusting a first-timer may not be the right path.
