Golden State Warriors: 5 Takeaways From Game 5 vs. Blazers
2. Curry Is Definitely Back
In his first game back from a two-week absence due to a knee sprain, Steph Curry had one of the more iconic moments in NBA playoff history, letting the world know he was BACK while dropping 40 points in 37 minutes off the bench, including an NBA record 17 points in overtime.
It was a remarkable performance from the two-time MVP, but it was also fair to wonder how much fatigue and soreness would affect him in his second game back, after all that adrenaline had worn off.
In Game 5 Wednesday night, Curry buried any concerns about rust under a barrage of late-game triples.
Curry finished the closeout game with 29 points, 11 assists and five rebounds, shooting 10-for-20 from the field and 5-for-11 from three-point range while posting a +11 plus/minus.
He also scored Golden State’s last seven points, with a dagger three to extend the lead to five and four free throws to close it out.
In his first two games back, the back-to-back MVP is averaging 34.5 points, 9.5 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game on .500/.370/1.000 shooting splits. With a few extra days off the rest, it’s safe to say that Steph Curry really is back.
