Honorable Mention: Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t exactly the most ideal of destinations for big-name free agents. The organization has been in shambles for the past three years, with the team going from tanking, to super-tanking, to, “It’s been three years, how are you getting worse?”

With Bryan Colangelo in the front office, Brett Brown as the head coach, and Mike D’Antoni helping to run the offense, however, Rondo could conceivably become an All-Star again in Philadelphia.

The 76ers aren’t ready to win right now, but if Rondo takes a prove-it deal, he could earn himself a much bigger contract in 2017. That’s a risky endeavor for a player who should be able to get a three or four-year deal from a team in 2016.

As Steve Nash firmly established in the 2000s, however, gifted passers tend to thrive on teams built by Colangelo and coached by D’Antoni.

Philadelphia doesn’t have much in terms of immediate value, but it’s deep and promising along the interior. Nerlens Noel can run the floor exceptionally well for a big man, Jahlil Okafor is a skilled post player, Joel Embiid is as intriguing as he is enigmatic, and Dario Saric could come over to the NBA in 2016-17.

The 76ers don’t have any true immediate impact players, but a great year from Rondo could simultaneously bring him back to the All-Star Game, increase his market value, and make Philadelphia acceptably competitive.
